Thank you to the NWHF family - I'm sure we'll be seeing you soon! :)
Between my parents and ourselves, we have utilized NWHF for over 30 years. I can't say enough good things about their dedication to customer satisfaction and professionalism. One of the owners Amy has been our "go to" decorator and furniture supplier for 3 different houses we've lived in. From my parents 1st recommendation, when we could barely afford the new couch we needed, we've always been very satisfied. They are always comparative in price to others, as we checked this out. However, they're service was and has always been top notch. Amy has come to my homes, helped me pick out paint colors, worked with decorating ideas. Without her helpfulness, the move in process would have been much more stressful.
I however have no other choice but to give the 5 star rating for this store!
Hidden little gem of a furniture store on the West End.
My husband and I were drawn to Northwestern as we try to shop local whenever possible, but we were thoroughly disappointed with our experience.
This place is where it's at for actual quality furniture and not cheaply made knockoffs. The staff has decades of experience and can provide guidance, design assistance, all the personal touches that chain stores wouldn't know the first thing about. My entire house has been put together with pieces from this store as well as Amy's expertise. I send everyone here; I honestly can't speak more highly of them.
Small family owned stores are few and far between these days....this is gem that needs to be on your list when furniture/accessory shopping!!
We ordered a couch and chairs that were suggested to us from their catalog as they were not in the store. The driver delivered it and once we saw the couch in person, we realized it as was both extremely uncomfortable and doesn't fit in our home the way they laid it out for us. We immediately called and were told to put it in the room and try it. We called them back and spoke to our saleswoman whom was extremely rude and condescending. Not only are we stuck with a $1350 piece of furniture we are not satisfied with, we were not made aware of there not being a return policy AT ALL, as it's is stated on the receipt that there is a 35% restocking fee on special order cancellations. I asked if there was a manager that I could discuss this situation with, and the saleswoman smirked "my husband owns the store and you can talk to him and he'll tell you the same thing I did". We never would've made this purchase if we knew this, as it was stated nowhere on the paperwork we signed.
Very good shopping experience. While Northwest Home Furnishings is not as large as some of the other stores in Grand Rapids, the pricing is the best. I was going to buy a Stanley Bedroom from another retailer and decided to check their price. Northwest was nearly $1000 less without me even mentioning that I was shopping around. They offer fair prices while the other Stanley dealer was trying to rip me off. I will shop here again.
I sometimes question when I see either a 5 star rating or a 0 rating as these typically are created to either hurt or enhance something with no merit....
I cannot believe this company has been in business this long if this is how customers are treated. We were also going to purchase furniture for other rooms (we had a wishlist on file), including, rugs, tables, and eventually bedroom sets. I'm thankful we didn't spend more here than what we did, and Talsma will be getting the remaining business. Even Art Van has better customer service than Northwestern.
She's never been pushy to oversell. if we could only afford (which was true at the beginning of our relationship) a small item, never were we made to feel that we were wasting their time...which we encountered at other stores. Hate to say it, but we did once try buying a bed from Talsmas Furniture store (sorry Amy!). Service up front was ok....getting the delivery and follow up of issues we had were a nightmare. Please do yourself a favor - do NOT listen to any nasty posts made....they do not make any sense to me. Go see for yourself the wonderful customer service, the quality of furniture, the many many home accessories they have to complete your "look", as well as your experience of how professional the delivery experience is to any follow up you may need to have.
