Attempted to visit Red's at their new location this past weekend to celebrate a special event. We had a reservation for 6:15, arrived ahead of schedule, and were told we would be seated outdoors. We indicated our preference was to dine indoors and the host, in a rather snide manner, indicated we hadn't stated that preference when making our reservation and the indoor dining area was completely booked - so, we chose to dine elsewhere and have no intention of returning. I would add nothing on the Open Table reservation system indicated we needed to choose whether to eat inside or outside and one has to wonder what the restaurant would have done in the event of poor weather? Happily, for us, we enjoyed a fine meal without any service issues nearby at the Blue Water Grill.

We were big fans of this place when it was located in Rockford, visiting on many occasions. We decided to go here for our wedding anniversary and check out the new location. My husband called and made a reservation days in advance, and was told at that time that they were wide open for time slots. The food was perfect, our waitress was great, but our initial front of the house experience was terrible. When we arrived my husband let them know we had reservations. A hostess asked if we wanted to sit outside, and we declined due to the high heat. My husband mentioned that he didn't realize when he called that he had to select indoor seating, and we were quickly and very rudely told by one of the gentlemen behind the desk that it was our choice. My husband again reminded them that we were there for our anniversary and that he trusted they would sit us in a nice spot. We were seated in the bar area next to a very rambunctious winning golf tournament table. Definitely not the quiet and romantic evening we thought we would get. Clientele and atmosphere is definitely not what it used to be in Rockford!

We had reservations at Reds at 1000 Oaks for their Thanksgiving Buffet this afternoon and were very disappointed, considering prices. Salad bar had no plates for customers, no rolls and empty containers that should have held standard fresh vegetables for salads. Plates and salad fixings were replenished eventually. Steam table foods table was no better. Breakfast food was still available in mid-afternoon. Roast beef was almost gone, ham was just scraps and the "carved" turkey was shredded. Gravy was pasty and bland as was the green bean casserole which was also cold. Dessert table was OK; but, until today, I've never seen gummy bears and m&m candies presented along with pumpkin and apple pie. An after-dinner cup of coffee came without a saucer - odd. If I were staging such a big event, I would have assigned an employee or 2 to make sure that the buffet tables were sufficiently stocked with food.

Reds was always our favorite restaurant when it was in downtown Rockford. We visited Reds at their new location last July 2016 for our anniversary. We were quite disappointed in the service. Last April 2017 we returned with our adult children for my husband's birthday. We have often celebrated special occasions at Reds. We were very disappointed! The service was very poor and the food was not very good. My husband could not even cut his prime rib. The server never returned until the end of the meal so he was not able to send it back. We did not plan to return. This July 2017, however, we decided to give it one last try for our anniversary again. We were very pleased! Our server, Ellie, was wonderful! The food was great! The restaurant manager stopped by and told us they had new chef and that he, the manager, had been there a short time. We definitely could see a difference. We will definitely be back!

On a more positive note, our server was pleasant and attentive to our needs; and we certainly did not overeat.

Good. Nothing more than slightly ordinary, but good quality.
